The studio is finally finished, and I was so excited to shoot in it on Saturday morning! The weather was beautiful, so we went outside for a few at the end, too! I was happy to have these blue-eyed handsome boys to be the first to try out the new space. I think they liked it!

can i just start by saying i *love* this kid? i mean, it's enough that he's adorable and cuddly in all his squishy newborn goodness, but then.... THEN.... at 2 1/2 weeks old, he slept the *whole* session. i was shocked. he was in total chill mode, and it was fantastic. i'm so glad he's my newest baby planner! i made him promise that he'd be just as well-behaved and adorable for his 6 month and 1 year sessions. he agreed. can't wait to hang with my new little buddy again!

I had to give him a little faux hawk for at least one shot :)

he didn't even get mad at me for putting the hat on him. not yet anyway, wait til he's a teenager :)

meet the b family! we go to church together and are in the same sunday school class, so they have to put up with me fairly often. :) i really enjoyed spending time with them yesterday! they're really one of the sweetest families you'll ever meet. little man kept us all laughing as we explored the salem college campus together. he made sure to point out how old all the buildings were and asked a few times if the people were really old too. :) we had fun and nobody fell in the creek, so i consider that a success. :) thanks guys!

in the chaos of the busy fall season, i have been posting small sneak peeks on fb and neglecting my blog... for that, i apologize! but i plan to make it up to you, with a sneak peek of a beautiful mom-to-be and her sweet husband. they're so excited about their impending arrival, and i know they're going to be fabulous parents!

we had a great time during this session. lots of laughter and funny moments! i enjoyed getting to know this fun couple, and i can't wait to meet little audrey! i know she'll have her mommy's beauty, her daddy's sweet spirit, and her parents' sense of humor. ashley and steve, you're going to have your hands full. :)

i'm always excited when a dear friend has a new little baby for me to photograph (because that's why they have babies, right? so i can take photos of them? :) so i was on pins and needles waiting for my friend kati to have her beautiful little (and i mean that! she's tiny!!!) girl. baby j didn't make me wait too long, she showed up a couple of weeks early! i tried to bring her home with me, but kati said no... although she mentioned she might change her mind on a sleepless night! :) thank you, kati, for letting me photograph your precious little girl! i'm so happy you're one of my baby planners!

i just *adore* little miss e. i can't believe she's already a year old. time goes by too fast! she was so super sweet, as usual, and she looked absolutely adorable for her 1 year old photo session. her mom always finds the cutest outfits and headbands for e, and this session was no exception! i really had so much fun with the g family, and was glad we finished up just in the nick of time, before the rain started. i'm in disbelief that this was the last session of e's baby plan, but i hope there will be lots of sessions in the future with the g family!

i was super excited to photograph courtney on sunday after being rained out on saturday! we hit a few different locations, a couple of which were new to me. it's always nice to shoot in a new location! courtney is a beautiful girl, and a total natural in front of the camera. she is a dancer at a local dance studio, and still finds time for her part-time job. courtney, you have a bright future ahead of you!

mason's service was on sunday afternoon. it was a sweet service, and being standing room only, it was so clear how much mason was loved and how many lives he touched in his way-too-short time here on earth. mason was a very special kid and he will be missed by many. after the service, his family had a butterfly release in mason's honor. it was a beautiful moment, and his mom, stacy, wanted me to take a few photos for them. my prayers are with this beautiful family every day! may God give them peace and comfort during this difficult time, knowing that mason is hanging with Jesus, listening to music, and smiling that beautiful smile.

it is with a very heavy heart that i write this post. you read about my new friend, mason, only 10 days ago. after reading about this amazing boy, many of you told me you were praying for mason and his family. he was fighting a rare cancer called anaplastic ganglioglioma. i'm sad to say that last night, he lost that battle. my heart breaks for mason's family. i know they'll miss that infectious smile and his sweet spirit. i also know that mason is smiling that precious smile in Heaven today. he is no longer in pain, and that brings comfort in this difficult time. please keep mason's family in your prayers.

i'm pretty much about-to-pee-my-pants excited about what i'm about to post. just thought i'd warn you.

on october 1st, i will be signing a lease to split a big awesome space in lewisville with 3 amazing women so that i can have my very own... drumroll please... natural light studio!!

a.l.o.e. "a little of everything"

did i mention that i'm excited??!?

there will be a manicurist, an art teacher, possibly a part-time yoga instructor, and... well, elaine. we'll just call her "elaine, finder of cool, funky things". she will be scouring the streets, ready to pounce on awesome finds that she can re-purpose, just for you. we will be offering kids art parties, art night out, etc.

i don't think i can put into words how excited i am. i have longed for a place i can shoot when it's too sunny, too cold, or rainy. i am looking forward to keeping up my shooting schedule through the winter, which are normally my super slow months. i'm looking forward to prop-hunting. and todd's looking forward to my props having a new home. :) i will still do the majority of my shooting on-location, as i've always done. i wouldn't change that for the world. but this location is fantastic, so we'll have the option of doing an indoor and outdoor combination session, which will be great!

thank you so much for your support. without that, i wouldn't be where i am today. i couldn't ask for better clients. you guys totally rock!

... and he stole my heart. his name is mason, and he's 9 years old. he has this great family and lots of friends and love and support. he's silly and brave and an inspiration to so many. he has a sweet, sweet spirit that you can just feel when you're around him. and let me tell you, when he smiles, you just can't help but smile too.

on the outside, mason looks like like a normal, happy kid... but on the inside, his body is fighting a battle that most of us can't comprehend. you see, mason has a rare cancer called anaplastic ganglioglioma and the tumors in his brain are not getting better. i have been following mason's story for a while, but when a friend told me that he had progressed from the "cure stage" to the "palliative care stage" (just making him comfortable), i knew i needed to help. i don't have a lot to offer, but i wanted to give them a family photo session while mason was feeling well enough. i am so glad i did. meeting mason and his family might have just changed my life. what an amazing strength they have. here is a glimpse into our session....

So a while back, an idea struck me suddenly.... I was photographing a family with a little girl, and I was really wishing I had an adorable girly/vintagey quilt to set her on for her photos. I immediately thought of my friend, Angie, and her amazing quilt-making skills! When I told Angie of my super idea, she somehow climbed into my brain and figured out exactly what I was looking for (since I can't seem to articulate the quilty things... they have a whole 'nother language for that stuff!). And just a couple of weeks ago, voila! I had an adorable girly/vintagey quilt! Angie is my hero. Isn't this quilt gorgeous??? If you need anything quilt-like, you should definitely contact Angie!

Little Miss T was a fast mover, so she didn't stick around on the quilt very long, but I was able to grab a quick shot of her before she left. :)

have i mentioned lately that i love what i do? one of my favorite things about my job is the awesome people i meet... people who begin as clients but become friends. i love getting to know them, watching their kids grow up, and getting to be a small part of that. photography is such a personal business, and i love every minute of it.

time really flies. i can't believe little miss t is already a year old! she has such a personality already and is just too stinking cute. she gave me a run for my money yesterday.... or rather a run all over the park. :) she is full of energy and she adores her family... as long as they don't try to make her sit still! i enjoyed our session, b family! hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

I skipped town last week to take my kiddos to Niagara Falls for a few days, so I'm a little late getting this sneak peek up! (Btw, if you go to Niagara Falls, you HAVE to go to the Canadian side, and the Maid of the Mist boat ride is a must!)

I had the pleasure of photographing Sherri and Richard's wedding yesterday. This was such a sweet and heartfelt ceremony! I told Richard that of all the weddings I've photographed, I've never even teared up... of course, I think there are many sweet moments in the weddings that I get to capture for those special couples, but none of them have touched me so much as when I watched Richard sing "Lead Me" to Sherri during their ceremony. I teared up enough to have to wipe my eyes so I could see through my lens. :) It was such a special day, and I'm super glad I was able to be a small part of it! It's been a busy week, so I'm just now able to sneak peek a wedding from last Saturday. This wedding was held in the cutest little town ever... Gold Hill, NC. I really want to head back there sometime and check out all the little shops! And probably take my boys along so I can get a few photos of them too. :) The couple was beautiful, the weather was beautiful, and the wedding was beautiful, complete with a horse and carriage. I really enjoyed capturing their special day!

i can't believe how much they change in a few short months. little miss e had a personality all her own, and i'm so glad to say that it was a HAPPY one! she is, hands-down, the happiest baby i have ever photographed. i am still waiting on her mom and dad to change their minds about letting me keep her for a week or two... she is just TOO sweet! we shot for an hour and a half (mostly because i got carried away :) and she never cried a single time. it almost made me want another baby, but i know mine wouldn't be that sweet. mine would probably scream her head off day and night. so instead, i'll just stick with playing with everyone else's babies, then i can give them back if they ever do cry. i love my job. just sayin'.

Some of you may remember that a few months ago, I donated a session to an auction to help raise money to support EB research for my little buddy Jonah. I adore Jonah, and was excited to hear that the winner of my session on the auction is near and dear to Jonah also!

Lisa used her session for her son's senior photos. Have I mentioned that I LOVE shooting senior photos? I couldn't believe it when I got an email from Little C's mama saying that it was almost time for his 6 month photos! Time really flies with my baby planners! I was amazed at how well C was sitting up on his own. We decided that he needs to be one of the Buckingham Palace guards in London when he grows up because of how well he stayed stone-faced while we were all jumping around like monkeys. :) I truly enjoyed getting to spend some time with this sweet family!

It was obvious to me immediately how much love the C family all had for each other! I was asked to come photograph their family Christmas party, so that they'd have that rare opportunity to have family photos made to include all four generations. It was great meeting everyone! So I knew they were calling for rain today and snow late tonight, but imagine my surprise when it suddenly looked like a blizzard (ok, by North Carolina standards anyway!) outside my window just before my 1pm photo session today! I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! I enjoyed spending time with family, yummy food, and of course, Black Friday shopping! I still go out in the middle of the night for my shopping on Black Friday, but I keep saying that I'm going to start shopping online since so much of it is available on the websites now. But there's something about the adrenaline pumping dash across the store to find that awesome deal. :)

I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet family yesterday... the girls absolutely cracked me up. They are total sweethearts and super fun! We were glad that the rain held off and the weather wasn't too bad! It was a fun session, M family! Enjoy your sneak peek!

We had absolutely beautiful weather this past weekend! It was a perfect weekend to photograph my friend's kids. I love these kids like my own, so we had a lot of fun during our session, and topped it off with Krispy Kreme donuts for a treat afterward (for the kids, of course ;). We've already ordered the one of the 3 of them together in a canvas gallery wrap for her, can't wait to see it!

The H family looked great in their portrait outfits! I loved Little C's red dress... *almost* makes me wish I had a little girl! Almost. :)

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Little Miss C and her mommy and daddy today. I have had the privilege of photographing this sweet family a couple of times now, and Little Miss C never disappoints! She was super smiley as always, and she stole my heart when she blew me kisses and came to me to pick her up. She had fun playing in the leaves with mommy and daddy! It was a beautiful fall day for a session!

I had a one-year-old session with one of my baby planners today.... it's hard to believe that cute little squirt that tried to tip my basket over at 3 months old is a walker now! He still lights up at the sight of his mommy. :) He was a tired little guy today, and ended up dozing off at the end of his session. Time for my annual session with a couple of super fun people I met a few years back! We went downtown this time for a little different style than last year's fall leaf session. With the exception of trying to drive against traffic on a one-way street (which I don't recommend! :), we had a great time. I was afraid all my photos would be blurry from laughing so much - I seriously need to remember to wear Depends next year!

I flew up to Philadelphia on Friday to photograph this cuddly 5-day-old newborn girl. Even so new, she already had some adorable facial expressions! I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with Kayleigh and her family! I am excited to watch her grow up!

So yesterday, a nice man from our church made our boys' day! We took a little trip to visit Tony and see his airplane... I had asked him if he minded if we take some photos with it since all my boys love planes and love to fly, (and especially for Tate, whose room is decorated in vintage airplanes, per his request). The boys were SO excited to see the plane, just imagine the thrill when Tony offered to give the two older boys a ride in it! They've all flown in large commercial planes, but this was their first ride in a small two-seater! It's a totally different experience. Thank you, Tony! My boys will never forget that day! I thought I'd post a couple of photos of the boys and the plane... thought I'd do a couple of fun and funky shots with it. :)

I met the K family a while back at church. They are such a fun family... plenty of joking and sarcasm to go around, so definitely my kind of people. :) And it doesn't hurt that they have 2 of the sweetest kids you'll ever meet! I love seeing old friends from high school and church on facebook... reconnecting, reminiscing, seeing how we've all changed and grown up (well, most of us anyway :). Mia and I went to high school together in England in the early nineties (showing my age, I know!). We had reconnected on facebook a while back and she's living in Colorado now (which I hear isn't NEAR as humid as North Carolina :). So imagine my excitement when Mia sent me a message a few weeks ago, saying she and her family were traveling out here for a visit! Wendy and I went to Statesville today to photograph Jessica and Jason's nuptials. We were worried about the weather since the forecast called for storms, but the day was beautiful! Have I ever mentioned that I LOVE what I do?? Because I really, really do! I got to spend a few hours this morning with this beautiful, 4-day-old little girl. She was so sweet... I kept telling her parents that I was going to take her home with me, but I think they thought I was kidding. :) I am waiting for another 4 or 5 babies to be born this month, and I'm SO excited!

I have been trying for months to schedule a session with this sweet family, and literally every time we set something up, we've gotten rained out! On Wednesday, the clouds were gray... I wasn't sure if the weather would hold out. It tried to sprinkle on us a few times during the session, but we stuck it out and it cleared up! It was so nice finally meeting you all! Some of you know that my little guy, Tate, has a rare eye condition (known as PHPV or PFVS) in his left eye. His eye is getting progressively worse, and last week the pressure in his PHPV eye shot way up. We had a little scare that we were going to have to have his eye removed, but praise God, the drops have been working, and his pressure has come down some. His eye is degenerating, so it's just a matter of time, but we're praying that it's a LONG time!

I've been enjoying as much cuddle time as I can get lately from my energetic 4 year old, and a couple of mornings ago, I noticed how great his eye was looking.... so of course, I thought I'd grab a few snaps while he was being so sweet. :) I loved this collage so much, I ended up ordering a 16x20 canvas gallery wrap of it. :)

I LOVE my baby planners.... I love to see how they change from session to session! Baby R is still just as sweet as he can be! I love to see the smile on his face when he lays his eyes on his mama. :) He enjoyed spending time with Grandma and Grandpa at his session too! Seriously... Finn was the easiest kid I've ever worked with, EVER. And it makes my job even easier when he looks like he belongs in the pages of the GapKids catalog! This evening, I was excited to meet my friend Nicki's new fiancee! Nicki and Matt have enjoyed a whirlwind romance and are engaged to be married next spring. We had a great time at their engagement session tonight... the rain held off, and Matt survived my sarcasm and teasing like a trooper. I think he'll fit right in. :) Can't wait til the wedding!

Forsyth Humane Society Fundraiser- Thank you!

In March and April, I reduced my session fee to just $35 or a large bag of Purina dog food, and gave all session fees (in cash or food form!) to the Forsyth Humane Society. I started this fundraiser for my oldest son, Jake, who LOVES animals. We don't have pets (unless you count 2 goldfish) since we are not home enough, and Jake isn't old enough yet to volunteer at FHS. So Jake contributed by asking friends and neighbors to donate items for FHS (after all, who can say no to a sweet and thoughtful 9 year old? :). Together, we were able to raise almost $500 in item and cash donations for the Forsyth Humane Society! Thank you SO much to all of you who contributed to our efforts! I'd like to say a very special thank you to Tina Yow for her very generous cash donation! We couldn't have done it without you all! Jake enjoyed a fun afternoon visiting with the animals at FHS. He was also invited to come back and visit anytime he'd like to, which is.... every day. :)

We do plan to make visits regularly to the Humane Society, so if anyone would like to donate cash or items to them, Jake would love to have something to take to them when we visit! The FHS is a fantastic organization... they are a no-kill shelter who provides for and takes care of animals until they can find them a loving home. Whether you're looking for a good cause to give to, a place to volunteer, or are looking for a new pet, the Forsyth Humane Society needs you!

Stacks of supplies! We had several large bags of kitten chow, cat chow, puppy chow, and dog chow... as well as paper towels, toilet paper, quart ziploc bags, bleach, and trash bags. The FHS uses Purina brand for all the food, to keep it consistent for the animals.

Yay! It all fit in the back of our SUV!

Jake was so excited to be here! He had been waiting for this for months!

This dog's name is Jacob! Jake was excited to meet a dog with his namesake. :)

This is Princess. She just looked so stinkin' sweet! Wish we could have taken her home!

Jake spent some time with the cats, too! There were some ADORABLE tiny kittens running around playing when we were there! Jake loved to hold them... when he could catch them! :)

Emily, one of the super nice FHS volunteers, let Jake walk a couple of the dogs with her. He loved every minute of it! I think the dogs were happy to have a little boy to play with, too!

This is Diamond. Jake absolutely loved her. He spent most of his time in her play area with her. He really got a kick out of it when she was chasing her tail! She was a beautiful and sweet dog. We hope she has found a loving home!

I knew that if we just kept scheduling photo sessions for Jude, EVENTUALLY we'd have good weather! The third try was the charm! It was a HOT day, but with a little refueling here and there, Jude was raring to go! Oh, not to have his photos taken... just to go! And go. And go! I was watching him run around in circles at one point, imagining those areas in backyards where the energetic dog is on a leash, and there is a circle worn in the grass. :) Jude is going to be a big brother in a couple of short months! So this was a combination session of his 18 month photos and his mama's maternity photos. As always, I had a great time photographing this sweet little family. They are truly the nicest people on earth. And it's just a bonus that they have one of the cutest little boys on earth! Don't you agree?

This little guy (and I really mean little!) was a month old when he came to visit me yesterday. SO sweet! Samuel was WIDE awake for almost all of his session. :) And he's a new baby planner, so I'm excited to photograph him again in October! I enjoyed getting to know him yesterday. I offered to keep him, but alas, his mommy wanted to take him home. Maybe next time. :)

Jessica booked a session with me to have some photos done for her mom for Mother's Day. She was telling me that her mom loves Alice in Wonderland, and Jessica used to work as a Disney character, so she had the poses and expressions down perfectly for this fantasy-themed session!
